Year of the Monkey 2016

Have you felt the transformational energy this year.  As we wind up 2016, I can clearly state that this has been a year of movement.  Personally and professionally, life is opening into a much more grounded and spacious place.  This new image is from 2009, in Paris, France at Hahnemann’s grave.   I continue to study with Henny Heudens-Mast, internationally renowned Classical Homeopathic practitioner in Belgium.  This is a commitment that I made over a decade ago.  I believe homeopathy is a wonderful modality for healing at a very deep level and moving individuals away from familial and personal potentials for disease.

Sacred Medicine Clinic welcomes Dr Lisa Del Alba, ND and Benjamin Bell, LMT as new practitioners on site.

Please join us for our 10th year Anniversary and Open House December 13th, 2016 4:30-7:30pm.

Catching Up Blogging

The last two years have been exceedingly busy with the registration of so many Lane County residents with Trillium/OHP.  We have had the pleasure to see lots of new patients from this insurance Medicaid plan.  Many parents come with questions regarding selectively and specifically vaccinating their kids.  Education and evaluation of risk factors and susceptibility are important to adjusting and administering vaccinations using an individualized scheduling according to the child and family presentation.  An example of this change to a CDC recommendation:  if a mom at the time of birthing does not have Hepatitis B – why would we have a newborn injected with Hepatitis B vaccination within 24 hours of delivery.   Research shows that because of mom’s natural passive immunity to infant,  the best time to vaccinate is after breast feeding and perhaps after a child is past 1 year old.

Pertussis is a concern in this part of the world.  Naturopathic medicine is great for prevention and treatment.  Vaccinating siblings and parents of age 0-3 provides some immune protection to an infant.  In high risk situations, following CDC recommendations is possible.  Research has not been utilized to confirm the validity of the CDC schedule for the most optimal timing of vaccinating.  As a practitioner, Dr Kelly reviews each client individually.

I have heard parents say their pediatricians will not provide health care due to Trillium/OHP not paying the practitioner if the child is not following the CDC schedule for vaccination.  Dr Kelly believes this is unethical medical practice and coercive.

Have a wonderful rest of the summer months.  Blessings to the onset of rain in our region.  Keep our fire fighters safe.

A New Year and Renewal of Health Commitments

How often do we turn the corner in a new year and reflect on what we can do to improve our overall health and well being.  Here are a few suggestions: 1.  Fresh air everyday.  Take time even in the rain to be outside and breath in the cool wet air.  This helps to energize your body through your lungs. 2.  Walk 10-30 minutes daily.  It’s not the weather; it’s our gear.  Even if you only make it around the block, you have taken time to move your body and see what’s going on in the neighborhood.  Strive for 7000-10,000 steps daily. 3.  Drink water – at least four – eight ounces glasses; but for every cup of caffeine, drink four cups of water.  If you have cardiac problems or blood pressure problems – please, consult with your primary care provider. 4.  Eat three meals daily with protein sources in each meal.  This can be a vegetarian or meat source of protein.  Refrain from eating processed foods, fast foods, white sugar and white flour products – unless you are celebrating a birthday! Life is too short. 4.Find time for laughter and enjoyment or reflection and quiet.  5.  Take part in an activity in your community weekly.  You might attend a concert, walk to the play-ground and watch children, volunteer at a school or event, go to a neighborhood meeting, or check on an elderly neighbor.  Engage yourself in your community.

Have a wonderful and transitional 2013

Pertussis Comeback

I wanted to remark on the Pertussis issue that is surfacing and baby.
I attended a Vaccination seminar specifically on Pertussis this week.
There is an increase in this bacterial infection in California and Washington – with King county posting an alert.
3y/o and below are at most risk from the sequela of the bacteria ie the toxins that are secreted effecting the respiratory
tract and causing airways issues.
Second children are most at risk due to carriers from older siblings and adults around them bringing the exposure home and
having close contact with baby.
Suggestions –
1.) Check for pertussis titers in adults and middle age kids.  Pertussis vaccination wanes in strength after 10y/o and there is now a new vaccination for teens.
2.) Consider inoculation of breast feeding mom or pre pregnancy mom so baby can get passive immunity through mom via placenta and  breast milk (for non vaccinated babies, esp)- this is a most recent idea and I like it.
The pertussis is a most challenging and tenacious bacteria.  It can really be a problem for this under 3 y/o age group mostly.

Just some thoughts – share with other moms.  If there are questions let me know.

Winter Wonderland

The Winter days have been curiously wonderful.  Bright sunshine, cold mornings, early buds creates an opportunity to pause and reflect on the changes occurring in our worlds.  Lately, I’ve been thinking a lot about transformation.  I was pondering the metamorphosis of the catepillar into the butterfly and thinking that the process must either be painful in some respect or that there was a wonderful narcotic that was secreted to allow a state of numbness through this alluring transformation.  What I did recognize as being most significant is the element of time.  Time being so exacting for the emerging of the butterfly after being in the chrysalis for its period of transformation.

How do we transform?  How do we numb ourselves during this period of change?  How do we present in a graceful manner to accept the tide of change?  How do we question the possible avenues that are available to us in our quest and process of change?

I believe the many diseases that we are witnessing in this time are presentations of genetic change of our species.  We are exposed to so many varied elements in our foods, our environment, our technology, and our medical care.  What is our transformed species being prepared for with respect to the worldly changes that are occuring?  There is much to think about during this time of transition.

Blessing for the remainder of these Winter months.
